GORE VIABAHN Endoprosthesis Animation

This animation provides a visual explanation of the GORE VIABAHN endoprosthesis, a covered stent used in the treatment of peripheral arterial disease. It illustrates how the device is deployed within the artery to restore blood flow and the clinical applications for which it is used.

The GORE VIABAHN is a flexible, covered stent graft consisting of an ePTFE (expanded polytetrafluoroethylene) lining supported by a nitinol stent frame. It is used to treat long-segment blockages in the peripheral arteries, particularly the superficial femoral and popliteal arteries, where conventional stenting has limitations.

GORE VIABAHN is used in the endovascular treatment of peripheral arterial disease, particularly long-segment occlusions of the superficial femoral artery. It may also be used in popliteal artery disease, iliac artery disease, and for treating traumatic arterial injuries or aneurysms in peripheral vessels.

A covered stent provides a physical barrier that prevents tissue ingrowth through the stent struts, which is a significant cause of in-stent restenosis with bare metal stents. This results in better long-term patency in longer lesions and vessels with extensive disease.

Regular duplex ultrasound follow-up is required after GORE VIABAHN placement to assess patency and identify any restenosis or complications early. Antiplatelet medications are continued long-term, and cardiovascular risk factor management remains an important part of ongoing care.
