VARIXIO Foam Sclerotherapy
Next-generation automated foam sclerotherapy, now available in Western Australia. Perth Vascular Clinic is the first practice in WA to offer the VARIXIO system for the treatment of varicose veins of all sizes.
A Historic First for Western Australia
First VARIXIO in WA & 2nd in Australia
Perth Vascular Clinic is the first practice in WA, and only the second in Australia, to offer VARIXIO automated foam sclerotherapy.
- Day procedure — no hospital admission required
- Minimally invasive with local anaesthetic only
- Real-time ultrasound guidance throughout
- TGA approved and CE-marked with strong clinical evidence
The VARIXIO Foam Generation System
Perth Vascular Clinic now uses the VARIXIO foam generation system, the most advanced automated foam preparation device available for sclerotherapy. VARIXIO produces standardised, high-quality microfoam every time, opening the door to surgery-free treatment of varicose veins of all sizes.
Unlike traditional liquid sclerotherapy or manually prepared foam (the Tessari method), VARIXIO is a licensed, premixed polidocanol microfoam produced automatically to a consistent, protocol-grade standard with every preparation.
The foam displaces blood within the vein, causing the vessel walls to undergo a controlled injury response. The vein collapses, closes, and is gradually reabsorbed by the body over time.
Why VARIXIO is Different
The VARIXIO system offers meaningful clinical advantages over both manual foam preparation and conventional liquid sclerotherapy.
Conditions We Treat
The VARIXIO system extends foam sclerotherapy to a broader range of vein types than traditional methods, including vessels that were previously unsuitable for foam treatment.
How It Works
-
Ultrasound Mapping
The affected veins are mapped using duplex ultrasound to identify precise treatment points and plan the procedure.
-
Automated Foam Preparation
The VARIXIO system automatically generates standardised, high-quality microfoam to a consistent protocol, ready for injection.
-
Foam Injection
A fine needle delivers VARIXIO microfoam directly into the target vein under real-time ultrasound guidance, ensuring accurate placement.
-
Vein Closure & Reabsorption
The foam displaces blood and causes the vein wall to spasm and collapse permanently. Over subsequent weeks, the body gradually reabsorbs the closed vessel.
What to Expect
- Assessment and duplex ultrasound mapping prior to treatment
- Procedure takes approximately 30 to 60 minutes
- Mild pressure or discomfort during injection only
- Compression stockings worn post-procedure
- Walking encouraged immediately after treatment
- Follow-up ultrasound to confirm vein closure
Is VARIXIO Right for You?
Foam sclerotherapy is not suitable for everyone. A thorough assessment is always carried out first.
Mr Garbowski will conduct a thorough vascular assessment, including duplex ultrasound, before recommending treatment. The most appropriate approach depends on the size, location and nature of the veins involved. All options will be clearly explained during your consultation.
Cost & Appointments
Treatment costs vary depending on the extent of the veins being treated and the number of sessions required. A clear overview of costs will be provided following your vascular assessment. Contact us to discuss appointments or whether Medicare or private health cover may apply.

Aching Legs
Persistent leg aching or discomfort can point to an underlying vascular condition such as varicose veins, poor circulation or deep vein thrombosis. Getting the right diagnosis is the first step to lasting relief.
Chronic Leg Swelling
Persistent leg swelling can result from venous insufficiency, lymphoedema or conditions affecting the heart, kidneys or liver. Early specialist assessment helps identify the cause and prevent long-term complications.
