The Gore Viabahn VBX is a balloon-expandable covered stent consisting of an ePTFE graft supported by a stainless steel stent frame. It is designed for use in complex aorto-iliac occlusive disease, allowing precise placement in calcified or complex anatomies where self-expanding stents may be less controllable.

The VBX stent is used in complex aorto-iliac occlusive disease, including CERAB (covered endovascular reconstruction of the aortic bifurcation) reconstructions, iliac artery aneurysms, and situations where a covered stent is required to achieve a seal or to address challenging anatomical configurations.

CERAB (covered endovascular reconstruction of the aortic bifurcation) is an endovascular technique for treating extensive aorto-iliac occlusive disease. Two covered stents, often VBX devices, are deployed in a kissing configuration at the aortic bifurcation to reconstruct the flow divider and restore blood flow to both limbs.

The balloon-expandable design provides greater precision in placement and radial force than self-expanding stents, which is important in calcified or complex aorto-iliac disease. The covered design also prevents tissue ingrowth and can treat concurrent disease in the stented segment.
